Configure database options

At this point in the configuration process, you are looking at the FIREHOUSE Software CAD Monitor Options dialog box, set to the General tab, and (if necessary) have already stopped the FH CAD Monitor service. Information on reaching this point is available in Configure general FH CAD Monitor.

  1. Click the Database or Data tab.

    During installation, if you selected a CAD system that uses an ODBC data source or text data files, the tab is named Database. If you selected a CAD system that uses XML data files, the tab is named Data.

    Note: Depending on the CAD system, different sections and options appear on this tab. The screen shot below does not contain all the options that could appear.

  2. From FIREHOUSE Software Database, select the type of FIREHOUSE Software database you are using, and specify necessary parameters for it.

    1. Choose Update local database.

      The Database Directory and System Directory fields appear below FIREHOUSE Software Database.

    2. For Database Directory, click the lookup button and use the file browser that appears to navigate to the directory containing your FIREHOUSE Software database.

      By default, this directory is C:\FIREHOUSE Software\DATA\.

      Note: If the FIREHOUSE Software database is located on a mapped network drive instead of your local hard drive, and FH CAD Monitor is run as a service, you need to use the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path to the location of the FIREHOUSE Software database, instead of the mapped drive letter.

      Example: \\Shared1_svr\Shared1\Program Files\FIREHOUSE Software\DATA

    3. For System Directory, click the lookup button and use the file browser that appears to navigate to the directory containing system files.

      By default, this directory is C:\FIREHOUSE Software\SYSTEM\.

    Warning: If your installation of FIREHOUSE Software Enterprise uses an .INI file, this option is grayed out. You must use Update remote database through ODBC data source instead, and create an ODBC data source for the FIREHOUSE Software database.

    Information on creating an ODBC data source for the FIREHOUSE Software database is available in Create a FIREHOUSE Software ODBC data source.

    • Choose Update remote FH database using existing settings on this computer.

      The FIREHOUSE Software Enterprise desktop client database connection settings are automatically used, and you do not need to do further configuration.

    Caution: If you have not already created an ODBC data source for the FIREHOUSE Software database, stop here and create it now, and then do the steps below.

    Information on creating an ODBC data source for the FIREHOUSE Software database is available in Create a FIREHOUSE Software ODBC data source.

    1. Choose Update remote database through ODBC data source.

      The ODBC Data Source, User ID, Password, and Use Trusted Connection options appear in FIREHOUSE Software Database.

    2. From ODBC Data Source, select the FIREHOUSE Software ODBC data source you created before installing FH CAD Monitor.

      Example: FIREHOUSE Software ODBC data source

    3. Select or clear Use Trusted Connection to indicate whether or not you want to pass your remote data source login credentials based on your Windows login information.

      If you select Use Trusted Connection, User ID and Password become disabled.

      1. In User ID, type the user name of the account you want to use for connecting to the FIREHOUSE Software database.

      2. Click Password.

        The Specify Password dialog box appears.

        Note: Note: Despite the references to "New" in this dialog box, you are not actually changing the password for the specified user account. You will use this dialog to specify the current password, and to confirm it.

      3. In New Password, type the current password for the user account you want to use for connecting to the FIREHOUSE Software database.
      4. In Confirm New Password, type the current password a second time.
      5. Click OK.

  3. Note: The name of the section that appears below the FIREHOUSE Software Database section, and the options that appear in it, vary depending on the CAD system you selected during installation. Do the steps below only for the options that appear in the section for you.

    Note: A Spillman CAD system lets you connect directly to the XML source files using a TCP/IP connection. As a result, this CAD system has significantly different options in this section than other CAD systems that use XML files for data.

      1. In IP Address/Server Name, type the IP address or the name of the server hosting the Spillman XML source files.
      2. In Port, type the port number needed to connect to the server.

      3. Select or clear Spillman server is set to send multiple queries without disconnect to indicate whether or not the Spillman data server disconnects from FH CAD Monitor.

        Note: By default, the connection to the Spillman server specified in IP Address/Server Name and Port remains open, and selecting this option is not necessary. The connection is sometimes disconnected on the Spillman server.

      1. Do one of the following.

        • In Process the following files, type the path to, or click the lookup button and use the file browser that appears to navigate to the specific XML data files to import.
        • In Or process all files in directory, type the path to, or click the lookup button and use the file browser that appears to navigate to the directory containing the XML data files to import.

      2. Under After processing files, select Delete or Move to to indicate what you want to do with the XML data files after they are imported from the CAD system.

        Delete removes the XML files from the CAD system after they are processed.

      3. (If you selected Delete) Select or clear Move to Recycle Bin to indicate whether or not you want to keep a copy of the deleted files in the Windows Recycle Bin.
      4. (If you selected Move to) In the field to the right of Move to, type the path to, or click the lookup button and use the file browser that appears to navigate to the directory where XML data files from the CAD system should be stored after processing.
        1. In User Id and Password, type the Windows login credentials for the drive you want to map to.

        2. Click Test.

          A warning dialog box for the test appears.

        3. Click OK.

          A confirmation dialog box appears.

        4. Click OK.

    SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) lets you transfer files between two remote systems, using a separate protocol packaged with SSH over a secure connection.

    This option imports your CAD data files securely from your CAD software server into FH CAD Monitor.

    1. In User Name, type the user name needed to log in to the SFTP server.

    2. Click Password.

      The Specify Password dialog box appears.

    3. In New Password and Confirm New Password, type the password needed for the user name you specified.

      Note: Note: Despite the references to "New" in this dialog box, you are not actually changing the password for the specified user account. You will use this dialog to specify the current password, and to confirm it.

    4. In SFTP Server IP, type the name or IP address of the SFTP server.
    5. In Remote Directory - Relative directory to FTP root (optional), type the relative path to the directory containing the CAD data files.

    A web service is a method of communication over the internet, that uses a standardized XML messaging system to encode all communications.

    You can define a connection to a specific web service by specifying the location and login credentials for the service.

    1. In URL, type the URL for the web service
    2. In User Name, type the user name needed to log in to the web service.
    3. In User Password, type the password needed for the user name you specified.
    4. In Agency Code, type the agency's ID number.

    In step 2 above, you specified the connection information for the FIREHOUSE Software ODBC data source. In the steps below, you are specifying the connection information for the CAD system's ODBC data source.

    1. From ODBC Data Source, select the ODBC data source you created for the CAD system when installing FH CAD Monitor.

      Example: Printrack (Motorola) ODBC data source

    2. Select or clear Use Trusted Connection to indicate whether or not you want to pass your remote data source login credentials based on your Windows login information.

      If you select Use Trusted Connection, User ID and Password become disabled.

    3. (If you cleared Use Trusted Connection) Do the following.

    4. In User ID, type the user name of the account you want to use for connecting to the CAD ODBC data source.

      Note: The account you use must have at least read access to the database.

    5. Click Password.

      The Specify Password dialog box appears.

      Note: Despite the references to "New" in this dialog box, you are not actually changing the password for the specified user account. You will use this dialog to specify the current password, and to confirm it.

    6. In New Password, type the current password for the user account you want to use for connecting to the CAD ODBC data source.
    7. In Confirm New Password, type the current password a second time.
    8. Click OK.
    9. (Optional) Click Clear to remove any values you specified in the CAD Database section.

    1. Do one of the following.

      • In Process the following files, type the path to, or click the lookup button and use the file browser that appears to navigate to the specific text data files to import.
      • In Or process all files in directory, type the path to, or click the lookup button and use the file browser that appears to navigate to the directory containing the text data files to import.

    2. In Unprocessed files directory (files that caused ODBC execution error), type the path to, or click the lookup button and use the file browser that appears to navigate to the directory where you want FH CAD Monitor to send unprocessed data files containing invalid data, which cause an ODBC error.

      When you specify this directory, FH CAD Monitor can continue processing the rest of the incoming data files instead of completely stopping the import process. You can then examine the file with the invalid data at your convenience and make the appropriate corrections to the data, so the file can be successfully processed and imported.

    3. Select or clear Process in groups of to indicate whether or not you want to process a large CAD import as a whole, or in smaller groups.

      Processing a large CAD import as a whole can use a large amount of available resources.

    4. (If you selected Process in groups of) In the field to the right of Process in groups of, type the number of records to process at a time.

    5. Select or clear Process files modified within last 5 min to indicate whether or not to process a CAD file even if the CAD file has been modified in the last 5 minutes.

    6. Under After processing files, select Delete or Move to to indicate what you want to do with the text data files after they are imported from the CAD system.

      Delete removes the text files from the CAD system after they are processed.

      Note: Some CAD systems require at least modify privileges to remove the files after they are processed.

    7. (If you selected Delete) Select or clear Move to Recycle Bin to indicate whether or not you want to keep a copy of the deleted files in the Windows Recycle Bin.
    8. (If you selected Move to) In the field to the right of Move to, type the path to, or click the lookup button and use the file browser that appears to navigate to the directory where text data files from the CAD system should be stored after processing.

    9. (Generic ASCII import) From File Version, select the file version needed to verify in the CAD text file.

      When the version value in the text file from the CAD system varies from the specified file version, the file is rejected.

      1. In User Id and Password, type the Windows login credentials for the drive you want to map to.

      2. Click Test.

        A warning dialog box about disconnecting the drive for the test appears.

      3. Click OK.

        A confirmation dialog box appears.

      4. Click OK.

  4. Click Save.

    If no other configuration settings are required for importing data from the CAD system, the FIREHOUSE Software CAD Monitor Options dialog box closes.

    If any required configuration settings are not yet specified (even on other tabs in this dialog box), an information dialog box stating that configuration settings are not complete appears. This is normal at this point of the configuration process.

  5. (If the information dialog box appears) Click Yes.

  6. (Optional) Configure additional settings as needed for the CAD system.

  7. (If you stopped the FH CAD Monitor service earlier) Restart the FH CAD Monitor service.
