Import From and Export To

FH has a built-in distributed networking system for transferring data from outlying stations to the central station when the following criteria is true.

  • A high speed connection is not available.
  • FH Enterprise is not available.

FH Enterprise is an alternative to using Import/Export. FH Enterprise is a client/server version that allows data to be entered across a wide area network with acceptable response times, even when high-speed connections are not available.

For Import from/Export to to work correctly you must designate one computer as the central station. All records will be stored here. If you are on a network, this most likely will be the network drive.

The distributed networking system consists of two functions available under the File menu Station Management option. They are the Export Data to Station... and Import Data from Station....

At each of the outlying stations, you need to export data. At the central station, you need to import the data that has been exported from outlying stations. The import specifies how duplicate records are treated.

There are two ways to treat duplicate records: "skip" or "overwrite". Skip duplicates when the records from the exporting workstation should not be imported if they already exist at the workstation performing the import. Overwrite duplicates when changes made at the exporting workstation should replace duplicate records at the workstation performing the import. If the exporting workstation creates new records rather than editing existing records these records will always be imported.

Note: Set up an automated task at each outlying station to export data, and another automated task at the central station to import the data. If you set up the import and export as an automated task, carefully consider the timing of your exports and imports.

Incident numbers must be unique (they can be generated by a CAD system as long as they are unique).
