Collect files needed for a new data map skin

A data skin is a graphical interface tied to specific map data. Additional general information on data skins is available in Configure map data skins.

  1. Choose GO → Open → Administrative → Open Map Data Skins Configuration Folder.

A Windows Explorer window appears, set to C:\Program Files (x86)\FH Mobile Response\Maps\DataSkins.

  2. Close FH Mobile Response.
  3. In the Windows Explorer window you must opened, copy the SAMPLE folder, and paste the copy in C:\Program Files\FH Mobile Response\Maps\DataSkins as well.

The SAMPLE folder contains an example map data skin to use as a reference. By default, the pasted folder is named Copy of SAMPLE.

  4. Rename the Copy of SAMPLE folder to something else that you will recognize as containing your customized map data skins.

    Example: FirehouseOccupancy

  5. Navigate into the folder you renamed.
  6. Copy any needed ESRI shape files, personal geodatabases (.MDB files), or file geodatabases, and paste them into this folder.

ESRI Shapefiles spatially describe points, polylines, and polygons, which could represent water wells, rivers, and lakes, respectively. Each item may also have attributes that describe the items, such as the name or temperature.

Personal geodatabases are Microsoft Access databases with a set of tables defined by Esri for holding geodatabase metadata (nonspatial data), and with geometry (Shapefile geometry fragments).

A file geodatabase is a collection of files in a folder that can store, query, and manage both spatial and nonspatial data.

Note: You must use ESRI's ArcCatalog application to create these files and databases.

  7. Continue with Edit the DataDef.xml file for the data map skin.
