Change Key Field Values

Fire and EMS incident report records include more than one key field to ensure uniqueness.

  • Fire Incident Key Fields. A unique Fire incident has a unique combination of FDID, Incident Number, Exposure, and AlarmDate.
  • EMS Incident Key Fields. A unique EMS incident has a unique combination of Service Number, FDID, Incident Number, Exposure, and Alarm Date.

This allows state collection agencies to track incidents from separate departments even if they use the same incident numbers since the department's different FDID and/or Service Numbers ensure that the incidents can be associated with the proper department.

If you have saved a fire and/or EMS incident and need to change a key field value(s), you'll notice that these key fields cannot be directly modified. This is behavior by design.

Use the Renumber option and change the appropriate values (you will need to enter the same incident number unless you want to change it).
