Configuring FH Web Edition to use a central license server

You can use two methods for configuring FH Web Edition to use a license server that serves multiple machines. In the following examples, machine550 is the name of the license server, and machine-w2k is the name of the FH Web Edition server. We recommend stopping the FH Web Edition License Manager on the FH Web Edition server before getting started. The License Manager should be disabled on all secondary servers of the central license server.

  1. Choose Start → Control Panel → Administrative Tools.
  2. Double-click Services.
  3. From the list of services, select FH Web Edition License Manager.
  4. Click Stop.

Once you have stopped the FH Web Edition License Manager on the FH Web Edition server, do one of the following methods for configuring a central license server:

  • On the FH Web Edition server, place port@host (example: 27000@machine550) in the LM_LICENSE_FILE environment variable instead of the path to the license file. FLEXnet Publisher’s LMTOOLS.EXE reports that the license file on machine550 is being read correctly.
  • On the FH Web Edition server, place USE_SERVER directly after the SERVER line in the license file on the FH Web Edition server. This is essentially the same as the preceding method, but the change to the environment variable is not required.

Example: The permanent license file (example: license.lic) on FH Web Edition server (MACHINE-W2K) would appear as follows:

SERVER machine550 00d0b74f4023
USE_SERVER
