Environmental protection

The HVAC system in the data center consists of units that use Freon and condensers, or multiple computer room air handlers (CRAH). Each self-contained CRAH unit provides and controls the cooling and humidification to the area surrounding it.

The facilities are segmented into individual zones that are each fully equipped with fire, smoke, and moisture detection systems. A remote sensor network detects fire, smoke, water seepage, unusual temperature changes, failure of computer cooling systems, and unauthorized entry into restricted areas. Under normal conditions, sprinkler systems are activated with water only when an alarm situation occurs; when activated, the sprinklers discharge water in areas where unacceptable heat levels are indicated. Fire and police departments are electronically notified of any alarm condition.
