Map CAD system fields to FIREHOUSE Software database fields

Your CAD system's data may not include all of the same data fields that the FIREHOUSE Software database includes. You may need to specify where a specific field is stored in the CAD data, and define where it should go in the FIREHOUSE Software database. This process is referred to as field mapping.

Note: The steps below should be performed after an FH CAD Monitor update runs, because additional fields and default mappings may be added by the update.

  1. (If you selected Run as a Service during installation) Stop the FH CAD Monitor service.

Information on stopping the FH CAD Monitor service is available in Stop a service.

  2. At the bottom of the FIREHOUSE Software CAD Monitor window, click Options.

The FIREHOUSE Software CAD Monitor Options dialog box appears, displaying the General tab.

  3. Click the Filters & Data tab.

Note: The Unit Status and Query Additional Incident Columns sections do not appear on the tab for all CAD systems.

  4. Under Field Mapping, click Field Mapping.

The Field Mapping dialog box appears.

FIREHOUSE Software fields are color-coded. When a FIREHOUSE Software field value is red, a mapping must be specified. Blue indicates that a default mapping available, but is not being used. The Default Field Mapping column indicates what the default mapping is, and does not need to be changed.

  5. From Show Field Mappings for Table, select the FIREHOUSE Software table whose field mappings you want to examine.

Note: The list of tables available in the menu varies, depending on the CAD system you selected during installation.

  6. Review the list of default mappings that appear, and the color coding of those mappings.
  7. For any row in the table that you want to create or edit for, in the Maps to CAD Data Element column, click the cell for that row, and then select a value from the menu that appears.

Caution: Some CAD systems do not send the department FDID number. Without the FDID code, an import of units cannot establish the link between the incident record and any responding unit records. In these cases, for the FDID row, in the Maps to CAD Data Element column, set the field mapping for FDID to No Mapping, and in the lower left corner of the dialog box, select Use FH user defined default values for fields not mapped. This combination supplies the FDID code from FIREHOUSE Software's workstation location setting.

  8. Select or clear Use FH user defined default values for fields not mapped to indicate whether or not to populate FIREHOUSE Software fields with FIREHOUSE Software defaults, when nothing or No Mapping is selected for the FIREHOUSE Software database field.

Note: Only static FIREHOUSE Software default values are applied to records; dynamic default values based on FIREHOUSE Software client workstation or system settings are ignored. Advanced FIREHOUSE Software functions (example: SQLMax, SQLMin, XLate) or default values that refer to application objects unknown to FH CAD Monitor (example: goApp, goApp.Workstation) do not add values to empty or unmapped fields. Native FoxPro functions such as TRIM() and LEFT() are applied to records.

  9. Select or clear Auto-Link to FH Occupancy based on address to indicate whether or not to use FIREHOUSE Software occupancy record field values in incident records created from CAD records.

When selected, and when a FIREHOUSE Software record is created from a CAD record, FIREHOUSE Software occupancy information defaults into the incident record when there is an exact match between the CAD values and FIREHOUSE Software values in the Number (NUMBER), Prefix (ST_PREFIX), Street/Highway (STREET), Type (ST_TYPE), Suffix (ST_SUFFIX), Address Line 2 (ADDR_2), City (CITY), State (STATE), ZIP Code (ZIP), and Apt Room(Apt/Room/Suite) fields.

If no match is found, the values in all fields except Apt Room (Apt/Room/Suite) are compared again. If no match is found, the values are compared again without Address Line 2 (ADDR_2). The final matching attempt excludes City (City).

When a match is found, State (STATE), ZIP Code (ZIP), District (DISTRICT), Census Tract (CENSUS), County (COUNTY), Township (TOWNSHIP), Zone (ZONE), Latitude (LATITUDE), Longitude (LONGITUDE), Specific Use (PROP_USE), EMS Incidents only: Property Ownership (PROP_OWN), and Mixed Use (MIXED_USE) from the FIREHOUSE Software occupancy record are defaulted into the incident report unless the field is mapped.

When a match is found to multiple occupancy records, where Apt_Room is the only item that did not compare, the first occupancy record is used.

  10. Select or clear Transfer Occupancy Owner/Contact Information to indicate whether or not owner and contact information in the CAD data should be imported into FIREHOUSE Software or ESO's EHR.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Click Save.

The FIREHOUSE Software CAD Monitor Options dialog box closes.

  13. (If you stopped the FH CAD Monitor service earlier) Restart the FH CAD Monitor service.

Information on starting the FH CAD Monitor service is available in Start a service.
