Cursor modes

The appearance of FH Sketch's cursor indicates the drawing mode you are in.

Cursor Name Mode description

Pen-up
cursor

When you first open the program, FH Sketch is in pen-up (non-drawing) mode.

Under normal circumstances, the pen-up cursor is the standard mouse cursor that you use across all applications. You are able to select anchored items for repositioning, editing, or common mouse navigation.

If the cursor is positioned anywhere in the drawing port, you can move it using your mouse, the direction keys, or by using measurement entry and a direction.

Note: When in free-form drawing mode (used to draw interior lines), you cannot select or edit items until you exit the free-form drawing mode and re-enter the pen-up (non-drawing) mode.

Pen-down cursor

After defining an area and establishing a point of beginning (POB), the cursor displays as a cross-hair. This is known as pen-down (drawing) mode.

You do not have to define an area first to begin drawing. You can also enter pen-down mode when drawing free-form lines (interior lines) or when using the options in the Draw menu.

When in pen-down mode, FH Sketch expects measurement entries from the mouse or keyboard, and the area needs to be drawn and closed to return to pen-up mode.

If you want to abandon drawing mode and return to pen-up mode, press Esc on the keyboard, and respond to the prompt to abandon the area.

Movement cursor

The movement cursor appears when moving areas. Typically, the cursor attaches itself to the POB. You can change this when moving an area by holding down the Ctrl key and then pressing the Tab key on the keyboard.

Edit cursor

The edit cursor appears while performing any edit function, such as editing a line, symbol, text label, or dimension. While this is officially a mouse cursor, its navigation relies primarily on the Tab key to move from one entity to the next. Whenever you are in an edit mode and the cursor is in this state, you can exit by pressing the Esc key on the keyboard.
