Report Expression

Defines the contents of a field control in a report.

  1. Add a field to a report or label.

    The Report Expression dialog box is displayed. Expression displays the currently selected expression, such as a table field or variable, or allows you to type a new one.

  2. For Expression, press .

    The Expression Builder dialog box appears.

    Information on the Expression Builder dialog box is available in Expression Builder.

  3. Create an expression and verify it before continuing.

    When a valid expression is displayed in Expression, you can format the field.

    • For Format, press .

      The Format (Field) dialog box appears.

  4. Press Calculations to display the Calculate Field form for selecting.

    The Calculate Field dialog box appears, so that you can select an expression to create a computed field.

  5. Press Print When.

    The Print When dialog box appears, so that you can specify conditions that must be met before the text is printed in your report or label.

  6. Under Field/Object position, specify the layout for the field/object.

    1. Select Float to specify that the selected field move relative to the size of the surrounding fields.
    2. Select Fix Relative to Top of Band to position the field as defined in the Report or Label Designer and maintain that position relative to the top of the band.
    3. Select Fix Relative to Bottom of Band to position the field as defined in the Report or Label Designer and maintain that position relative to the bottom of the band.
  7. Select Stretch With Overflow to allow the field to expand down the report page to display all data in the field or expression.
  8. Add Comments to the .frx or .lbx file.

    Note: Comments are for reference only and do not appear anywhere in the printed report or label.
