Add Map Location To Record

Mapping plots the location of your records based on available address information. Latitude and longitude values are the most accurate method for specifying location. The latitude and longitude values can be entered manually, or you can have mapping plot these.

Tip: Use system rules to require latitude and longitude in the records that you will be generating maps for. This will ensure that latitude and longitude values will be available rather than using other address information (which is potentially less accurate).

  1. Access a NFIRS or EMS incidents, occupancy, or hydrant records.
  2. Press Supplemental Address.
  3. Press Find Latitude/Longitude.

    The location is geocoded using available address information. Information on geocoding is available in Geocoding.

    Depending on the results, do one of the following.

    If this occurs Do this
    When multiple locations match address criteria, matches are displayed in the Geocode Result List form.
    1. Highlight the correct location then press Select.

      The map with the record location plotted is displayed.

    2. Press Select and the latitude/longitude values are added to the record.
    When a single location matches address criteria, the map with the record location plotted is displayed.
    • Press Select and the latitude/longitude values are added to the record.
    When the location can't be determined, the map with the default location specified in Workstation Options is displayed.
    • Manually place the record location on the map.

      1. Position the cursor where the record is located, and press your left mouse button.

        The icon for the record is placed where you specified.

      2. Press Select to add the latitude/longitude to the record.
