CAD Monitor 5.1 Update Available with New Functionality for Importing Personnel

Products Involved: FH 7.3 or later; CAD Monitor 5.1

In FH CAD Monitor 5.1, you have the choice of where to gather the names of responding personnel from for an FH incident record - the CAD software (if the data is available) or the FH Scheduling module.

To extract responding personnel data from the CAD data and deposit the personnel data in an FH incident, select From CAD Data in the Query Personnel section of the System tab in Options in CAD Monitor. Once CAD Monitor data collection is restarted, responding personnel will be populated in FH incidents using data from the CAD system as usual if the responding personnel data is available.

To automatically add responding personnel from their duty schedule in FH Scheduling to an FH incident:

  1. Ensure that the FH Staff Scheduling module has been purchased and activated.
  2. In FH, on the Scheduling tab in Tools > Workstation Options, ensure that a default schedule has been specified and the Real-time Link with Station Roster option has been selected.
  3. In CAD Monitor, under Tables to Process on the General tab in Options, ensure that Staff Activity and Responding Personnel have been selected.
  4. Select From FH Roster in the Query Personnel section of the System tab in Options in CAD Monitor.

Once CAD Monitor is restarted, responding personnel will be populated in FH incidents using the FH Staff Scheduling modules' data instead of CAD data. NOTE: The FH Staff Scheduling module must be purchased and activated for this feature to operate.

For further questions about this functionality, contact FH Technical Support at 800-921-5300 extension 2.

NFIRS 5 January 2009 Specification Cycle Coming in the FH 7.5 Maintenance Release

The distribution of the FH 7.5 maintenance release has begun for some states. Shipments to certain states have been delayed to address specific recent NEMSIS updating features. This maintenance release will address the NFIRS January 2009 changes, most notably the canceled en-route time validation and Fire Spread in association with the Object of Origin for the Structure Fire section of a fire report. To bridge the time before the maintenance release can be sent to departments, an installable .FHz containing a system rule and browsing query has been created to assist departments. The system rule will require the correct Unit Action Taken code, and the browsing query will display previous incidents entered in 2009 needing to have the record edited. The .FHz file is available under the Downloads column on the FH Support page http://www.firehousesoftware.com/sup/index.php.

Design documentation for the 2009 specification cycle, including specification changes and corrections, is available at http://www.nfirs.fema.gov/documentation/design/.

Comments: Located just north of Toronto, Canada, the Richmond Hill Fire Department provides services for fires, confined space and trench rescue, technical rope rescue, ice water rescue, medical assistance, auto extrication, public assistance, spills and release of materials hazardous to the environment. Richmond Hill is a safe, clean town committed to managing growth, which provides a welcoming, diverse and environmentally sustainable community that enhances residents' quality of life. The town of Richmond Hill started out as a small settlement located partially in the township of Vaughan and partially in the township of Markham. The town's development was closely linked with the development of Yonge Street, which was planned primarily as a military road by John Graves Simcoe, the first Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of Upper Canada. Early in the twentieth century, several large greenhouse operations were built in Richmond Hill, while rose growing turned the town into the "rose capital" of Canada. In the 1920s, the village council adopted the motto of the Duke of Richmond, for whom the town may have been named. Richmond Hill consists of 104 square kilometers and continues to be one of Canada's fastest growing municipalities. It is estimated that by the year 2021, the Town's population will reach 200,000. With a newly-built training tower and training facility and a new fire station planned, the Richmond Hill Fire Department will continue to be well-equipped to provide for this growing population.
