3.0.1 Release Notes
These Release Notes are for FH Inspector 3.0.1, and provide a listing of the enhancements implemented and issues resolved during this release.
Note: FH Inspector 3.0.1 requires FIREHOUSE Software 7.15 or higher.
The following enhancements were implemented this release.
FH Inspector now runs in the iPad 2, and a number of performance enhancements have been implemented to harness the power of iOS 8, giving you faster performance when synchronizing data between your iPad and the FH Cloud.
The FH Inspector 3.0 release is the last-planned release that will integrate with FH 7. Future releases will be designed to integrate with FHnet, to keep FH Inspector compatible with newer platforms and software products.
The user interface for FH Inspector has been streamlined and now has a sleek, clean look and feel. Below is a list of enhancements you will encounter in the new interface.
-
A new FH Inspector icon has been introduced for the 3.0 release.
- To improve readability, the overall background of the FH Inspector user interface has been changed from black to white.
- The shape of menus, buttons, and sections have changed, but in most cases, the names of menus, buttons, and sections remain the same. In a few screens, some buttons have been moved from the bottom of the interface to the top of the interface, but the buttons still appear on the same screen as they did before.
-
In the upper left corner the interface, the Business and Hydrants buttons have been combined to become a menu.
- The divided screen of map and list view has been replaced by full-screen views of the map and the inspection list, which you can switch between by using the list icon and map icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
- In the inspection list, when you click the Date menu, a simple menu listing date ranges appears, instead of a menu containing a roller wheel.
- The Editing Enabled bar and progress bar no longer appear at the top of the interface.
- During an occupancy inspection, when you indicate that a violation is found, a new Enter Note dialog box appears instead of simply putting the cursor in the Notes section of the checklist item.
- The Sections menu no longer appears on the interface. Instead, a list of the section names appear on the left side of the interface when you rotate the iPad to the horizontal orientation.
- An inspection timer appears in the upper right corner of the interface, and automatically runs while the inspection is performed.
- When viewing a violation summary, the Only Show Violations option no longer appears in the interface.
- When viewing a violation summary, the View Summary button has been renamed Review.
- For adding hydrants, the + sign in the lower right corner of the interface has been replaced with the Add Hydrant button in the upper right corner of the interface.
- If you open a hydrant inspection, if the hydrant has been inspected before, under Activity Summary, in the Report column, an eye icon now appears instead of the View button.
- For adding hydrant defects, next to No Defects, the sign has been replaced with the Add Defect button. When you add a defect, a new Add Defect dialog box appears instead the section updating so that you can enter defect information.
- When entering hydrant flow test values, the standard iPad keyboard now appears, instead of a number pad.
-
The power symbol, the i, and cog icons no longer appear in the upper right corner of the interface. The functionality they represented now appears as options in the FH Inspector menu, which has a three-dot icon.
The online documentation has been enhanced by implementing the use of thumbnail graphics.
To use this new feature in online documentation, do the following.
-
(When you find a small graphic with a red border around it in the online help) Click the thumbnail graphic.
A full-size version of the graphic appears in a pop-up window over the online help.
- Close the pop-up window by clicking the help web page outside the pop-up window.
When you encounter a small graphic in the online help, click it, and a full-size version of the graphic appears in a pop-up window over the help. To close the pop-up window, click the help web page outside the pop-up window.
Note: Because PDF files are static and quickly become out-of-date, and because online help can be updated rapidly to meet customer needs, this release marks the end of PDF files for FH Inspector documentation. Please see http://www.firehousesoftware.com/webhelp/FHinspector/Default.htm for the most current FH Inspector information.
The following issues were successfully resolved this release.
A number of application crashes that occurred while uploading photographs, synchronizing FH Inspector on the iPad with the FH Cloud, using the map feature, and so forth, have been resolved.
In FH Inspector on the iPad, the Add Hydrant button did not appear in the user interface, and you were not able to add new hydrants in the application.
At the beginning or at the end of an inspection, you could specify which inspector performed the inspection. If you searched for the inspector's name and selected it from the search results, the name of the inspector did not update with the selected name.
When you complete an inspection and view the resulting PDF file, email and print icons appear in the upper right corner of the screen. If you touch the email icon, an email browser appears. At the top of the email browser, the Cancel and Send buttons were hard to see against the background.
When you completed an inspection, if you tried to view the PDF or email it to someone, FH Inspector would sometimes close unexpectedly.
On certain types of devices, if you have inspection violations with photographs attached to them, a connection error message appeared when you synchronized FH Inspector with FH.
If you were inspecting a hydrant and paused long enough for the iPad to go into sleep mode, when you went back into FH Inspector to continue the inspection, only part of the data you had entered for the inspection had saved.
If you took photographs with the iPad during an inspection, when the PDF for the violation report was generated, the photographs embedded in the PDF file were blurry. The blurriness has been reduced in this release, and may be reduced further in future releases.
When you opened a re-inspection, photographs associated with violations and notes from previous inspectors did not always appear on the iPad. However, when a violation PDF was generated and emailed, the photographs and inspector notes displayed correctly in the PDF file.
In some circumstances, preplan data entered in FH Inspector did not synchronize back to the FH database as expected. After updating to FH Inspector 3.0.1, the data will synchronize back to the FH database.
